Permissions

Open Demo Maker → Set Up Permissions… or System Settings → Privacy & Security.

Screen & System Audio Recording
  • Record Area: required.
  • Record Display / Record Window: use Apple’s screen picker instead.
  • Compatibility mode: Record Display also needs this permission. Set it in Settings → Recording → Recorder.
Direct Screen Access
Record Area: a separate prompt, shown again on first use after opening the app.
Camera
Camera overlay and recording a cabled iPhone or iPad.
Microphone
Voice recording and the teleprompter’s Word tracking and Voice-activated modes.
Speech Recognition
Word tracking: the default teleprompter mode. Recognition runs locally. Classic needs neither speech nor microphone permission.
Input Monitoring
Editable cursor, Show click effects and Capture pressed keys. Enable these in Settings → Recording; all start off.
Access was denied or a window is black

Enable the relevant permission, then reopen Demo Maker if macOS asks.

Some apps block their content from being captured.

Accessibility in older versions

Version 1.0.4 and earlier listed Accessibility, but no feature uses it.

You can turn it off in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility.

Record

  1. Choose a display, window, area or connected device from Record.
  2. Select microphone, system audio and camera for Mac recordings.
  3. Record your steps, then stop. The editor opens automatically.
  • Create zooms automatically: on by default. Captured Mac clicks become editable zooms.
  • Show click effects: turn on in Settings → Recording.
  • Cursor style → Editable: choose before recording to restyle the cursor later.

Editable cursors and click effects need Input Monitoring.

iPhone/iPad recordings omit Mac clicks, cursor, microphone, system audio and camera.

Version 1.0 zooms

Automatic zooms also required Show click effects. Version 1.0.1 removed that dependency.

Edit

  • Timeline: select, split, arrange and retime clips.
  • Sidebar: adjust zooms, cursor, background, devices, text and sound.
  • Preview: watch the full video before exporting.

The app’s Help menu covers individual tools.

Save and recover

Save a named project and include it in your backups. Keep source files and external drives available.

After an unexpected quit
  1. Reopen Demo Maker and accept available recovery work.
  2. Save it as a named project before continuing.
  3. Keep the app’s support files intact during recovery.

Still on 1.0? Update the app first. Version 1.0.1 fixes lost media after saving recovered work again.

A source file is missing
  • Reconnect its drive or restore the original file location.
  • Demo Maker keeps media copies in saved projects.
  • From 1.0.5, copies unused for 30 days move to the Trash. Check there before emptying it.
  • Keep originals intact. Still missing? Contact support.
Moving to another Mac
  1. Copy the project and externally referenced media.
  2. Sign in on the new Mac and check playback.
  3. Keep the originals until everything works.

Your license supports two active Macs.

Captions and voice

Captions
English only. Parakeet download: about 663 MB. Audio stays on your Mac.
Generate captions
Insert → Generate Captions from Speech
Voiceover
AI voice in the Sounds sidebar. Bundled Kokoro voices speak English.
More voice languages
Optional Qwen3 download: about 2.7 GB. Adds Chinese, Japanese, Korean, German, French, Russian, Portuguese, Spanish and Italian.

Models run locally. Finish downloads before going offline.

Model download failed
  • Check your connection and free disk space, then retry.
  • Caption model: Insert → Speech Tools…
  • Qwen3: AI voice → Qwen3 engine.
  • For an integrity error, download a fresh copy. Don’t rename partial files.
Correcting captions

Review names, numbers, punctuation and timing before export. Clear speech gives better results.

Export

Choose Export or press ⌘E. Set the canvas and output format.

Resolution and frame rate
Video export includes 4K output. Export at up to 60 fps, or 120 fps when the source supports it. Choose settings to match your source; a larger export cannot restore missing detail.
Video
H.264 MP4 for compatibility. HEVC MP4 for smaller files. ProRes MOV for further editing.
GIF
Short, silent loops. Smaller dimensions and duration reduce file size.
Stills and sequences
One frame or a sequence of images.
Transparency
Choose an alpha-capable format. Ordinary H.264 doesn’t preserve transparency.

Keep source drives connected and leave free disk space. Review the finished video before sharing.

Export failed
  1. Save the project. Check disk space and destination access.
  2. Retry a short section with the same settings.
  3. Send support the settings, exact error and short-export result.

Update the app

Choose Demo Maker → Check for Updates. Automatic checks are in Settings.

Release notes · Demo Maker → About Demo Maker shows your build.

Using build 2?

It cannot update itself. Get the latest app from your account, quit Demo Maker and replace it in Applications.

Back up your work, then check a project after updating.

Account and billing

Demo Maker is a one-time purchase. Your license covers two Macs and all future updates, with no recurring charges.

Open your account using your checkout email and secure sign-in link.

  • Receipts and invoices: your one-time purchase receipt and payment details. A one-time purchase has no subscription to cancel.
  • Another Mac: install and sign in. Deactivate an old Mac if both seats are used.
  • Refunds: read the policy and send support your receipt reference.

Existing subscribers keep their original terms and can manage or cancel their subscription in their account.

Missing email? Check junk mail and use the newest link.

Offline use

After an online check: up to 72 hours offline, while your access is valid. Restarting your Mac requires another online check.

Account access, billing, updates and optional downloads also need internet.
